Coop Housing Members Association (CHMA)

Click link to access Coop Housing Members Association ("CHMA")

CHMA states in part, in its introduction that this group started because there are no serious associations for members of coops or tenants of government subsidized housing. Ken recommends this group of co-op members' get in touch with their CHIE

CHMA is a moderately active public group site with some 184 members as at August 27, 2024. Registered members and the Administrator/monitor have an option to be anonymous and post messages. In Ken's view, most registered members have never posted any messages as they seem to prefer remaining silent and watch on the side-lines.

In Ken's opinion, CHMA in some ways is an extension of CHF Canada's 'Co-Op Talk' that was deactivated in 2013 from the CHF Canada website. Co-op Talk

Jackie Kent is the Administrator since July 11, 2009 and is also the moderator of CHMA. Ms. Kent posts the vast majority of messages on this site. Ms. Kent is also a former board of director at Lakeridge Co-operative Housing Federation "Lakeridge" (dissolved around 2010) that was a member federation of CHF Canada. This may help explain Ms. Kent's alliance with CHF Canada, and their member federations.

In Ken's view, the moderator has the ability to hide (pending) or delete members' posted messages at her discretion, if she disagrees with what is in messages posted. The Administrator/monitor and members can flag posted messages on Meta (formally known as Facebook) and have posted messages removed from Meta. Example: Ken Newman Hummel's post was removed from CHMA and Meta on August 25, 2024. The removal of this posted message has been appealed, and is under review by Meta.

In Ken's view, the moderator can resort to abusive behavior in her posts:

Ken Newman Goodmoon Hummel did not reply to Jackie Kent's posts on or about June 25, 2024, but I'll reply on my home turf here on CHIE. I am disappointed, and I must strongly disagree with Ms. Kent's assertions...

There should be no doubt since 1999 many positive changes in governance and management has occurred, including most recently at my home housing co-op.

I can't change the inherent problems in the co-op housing sector or at my home co-op. I never took a seat on the board of directors at my home co-op because I was unwilling to sign an all inclusive Confidentiality Agreement that would silence me about raising issues at the co-op and on social media...I've communicated this to Jackie Kent numerous times over the years! In Ken's opinion, Jackie is 'Pissed off' because I'm outspoken and won't give up!

In my view, Ms. Jackie F. Martin Kent appears to be disgruntled and often looks back into the past regarding the co-op sector and her home housing co-op. Nobody can change the present if they are stuck in the past...And 'hidy ho' Jackie, I won't piss on your cornflakes!

CHMA appears hidden away from the beaten path on most social media sites and may get little attention. Ken linked CHMA to CHIE in an effort to give it more exposure and raise its profile...

CHMA would appear more democratic to everyone if the site administrator would allow registered users of open ID to post comments without the need to join CHMA as members. CHIE allows non-members to post comments!
