Co-operative Housing Federation of Canada

The Co-operative Housing Federation of Canada ("CHF Canada") is a self described umbrella group of non-profit-housing co-operatives, and national voice of the co-op housing movement in Canada since 1968. CHF Canada is also a lobbyist group that seek out funding from the Federal Government, Provinces, and Municipalities for Co-ops, and other non-profit housing. CHF is also a business that profits mainly from it's member Co-ops.

In Ken's view, the Co-operative Housing Federation of Canada has not published Annual General Membership meeting minutes on their Annual General Meeting Webpage since 2012 and CHF Canada has not published their Consolidated Financial Statements prior to 2007. 

 

In Ken's view, CHF Canada has not published any of its Board of Directors meeting minutes on the Co-operative Housing Federation of Canada website.

In Ken's view, CHF Canada falls short on their mission, values, and with transparency. Examples: CHF Canada does not disclose the remuneration of the Executive Director, and Staff..., and pander to its Member Housing Co-op's, Board of Directors and Management Staff.

CHF Canada, and its member federation's lobbyist...play a roll in drafting legislation and encourage parliamentarian's in the Ontario legislature, and pass Bill 14 without further amendments into Law that give co-op housing member's less right's under Law than tenant's of landlord's: CLICK HERE 

 

  

CHF Canada files application in Superior Court that orders Bridlewood Housing Cooperative into receivership and an order in 2012 that approves sale of the Co-op far below its market value to the Co-operative Housing Federation of Canada. 

 

Since that point-in-time, and in 2016, CHF Canada has not transitioned the housing project that it owns back to the Co-op Housing Model and has refused to return its Housing Project back to the status of Non-Profit Co-operative Housing: CLICK HERE  and  CLICK HERE for more information!

 

North End United Housing Co-op receives Award for Best Practices for strong governance and sound management at the 2010 CHF Canada Annual General Meeting. The Co-op was ordered into receivership in 2012 and was later sold to the Nova Scotia Housing Development Corporation::

CHF Canada charges each of its member housing co-ops, membership dues. Co-op membership dues are levied against each co-op member unit.

 

Membership dues are $4.00 per unit, per month in 2014, $4.05 per unit, per month in 2015, and $4.15 per unit, per month in 2016.

 

 

In Ken's view, membership to CHF Canada is not a voluntary act for each individual member residing inside a co-op housing unit. Some individual co-op members' can be opposed to paying membership dues, as they don't support CHF Canada's agenda...

 

 

If you want to consider withholding monthly membership dues from the co-op that are paid to CHF Canada then consider writing a letter to the co-op board of directors explaining why you don't support paying membership dues towards CHF Canada...

 

 

You and your Co-op Membership can vote as being opposed to the approval of a proposed annual budget when the Co-op budget is presented for consideration with a budget line item that include expenses for membership dues to CHF Canada.

 

 

When submitting monthly housing charge payment's to the co-op, consider withholding $4.15 per unit, per month from your payment that represents your 2016 co-op unit dues for CHF Canada.

 

 

 If your a resident member of a housing co-op that is a member of any CHF Canada regional housing federation, you may want to consider opting-out of that membership and withhold payments designated for any CHF Canada member housing federation
